ISSOTL Elections - Spring 2016

The International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning -- a growing international organization dedicated to the scholarship of teaching and learning -- needs leaders who are original thinkers, hard workers, and esteemed colleagues in the profession. ISSOTL's officers establish new directions for this organization while managing ongoing activities and services of the Society.

The ISSOTL Leadership and Elections Committee welcomes suggestions for nominees for the following positions:

  • President Elect
  • Vice President—Asia Pacific
  • Vice President – Canada
  • Vice President – Europe
  • Vice President – USA
  • Student Representative

Officers of ISSOTL carry out responsibilities according to ISSOTL's bylaws (available at, participate in each ISSOTL conference (with their own funding) during their term of office, and help the Society increase and serve its membership. Terms of office are three years for Vice Presidents and one year for President Elect, who becomes President and Past President in subsequent years (for a total of three years of service). Those officers elected in spring 2016 will begin their terms on July 1, 2016.

Nominations are due February 15, 2016.

Calls for Proposals and Upcoming Conferences

ISSOTL frequently shares calls for proposals and information about upcoming conferences on the Society's website. Here are two recent examples:

The first International Summer Institute on ‘Students as Partners in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education’ is to be organised by McMaster Institute for Innovation and Enhancement in Teaching and Learning (MIIETL), Canada in early May 2016. Its overall aim is to build the capacity and understanding of faculty and students to develop, design and implement initiatives to promote the idea of students as partners in learning and teaching in higher education. Dalhousie University invites you to submit a proposal to the 6th Biennial Threshold Concepts Conference from June 15 to 17, 2016 in Halifax, Canada. This year’s theme, Thresholds on the Edge, pushes us to think about and beyond the edges of our current understandings and practices around threshold concepts. The deadline for submitting a proposal is January 4th.

Potential posts to the blog can cover a range of topics, including but not limited to:

  • Society news from a board member, committee, or special interest group;

  • syntheses of recent SoTL research;

  • previews of recently published Teaching & Learning Inquiry articles;

  • showcases of SoTL research initiatives;

  • updates on SoTL innovations in international regions; and

  • introductions to SoTL resources that are relevant to ISSOTL members.

ISSOTL maintains a Job Posting forum for members. Current members may post job ads from their institution by logging in, visiting the Job Posting forum, and clicking "New Topic."
