Hi ISSOTL members of the Asia Pacific region!
We’d like to formally introduce ourselves – your regional VPs for the Asia Pacific Region. We are:
- Colin Jevons is regional VP from 2019-2022. He also serves on ISSOTL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion working group and welcomes contact from anyone with thoughts or suggestions about improving equity within ISSOTL, and our profession as a whole. Colin is an Associate Professor in Marketing and course director of the B.Bus. degree (6500 students) at Monash University. His research interests are student retention and attrition, graduate employability, student cross-cultural communication, and teaching critical thinking in business education. His pre-academic career was in consumer research and in book publishing, and he is an honorary life member of the Society of Editors. He tweets @colinjevons. Contact: firstname.lastname@example.org
- Karena L. Waller is regional VP for 2019/2020. She is an Associate Professor in Microbiology, and Deputy Program Director of the Bachelor of Biomedicine (approx. 2100 students) at the University of Melbourne. Her key interests are improving and innovating teaching and learning programs, improving student engagement and the student experience, in addition to provision of professional development opportunities for teaching focused academic staff and academic governance. ISSOTL Membership, Asia Pacific - Update
We have around 150 members from Australia, China, Hong Kong, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, Thailand, UAE and Vietnam. This constitutes about 20% of ISSOTL membership, third largest after USA and Canada.
Activities in Asia Pacific – 2020
- ISSOTL20 will be coming to Perth, Australia, from 27 to 30 October 2020! The ISSOTL general website (https://www.issotl.com/) is also useful. The Call for Proposals is now open!
- HERDSA 2020 Annual Conference, will be held in Brisbane, Australia from 30 June to 3 July 2020 (https://conference.herdsa.org.au/2020/); the 2019 HERDSA Conference was held Auckland, New Zealand (https://www.herdsa2019.auckland.ac.nz/herdsa/). HERDSA, the Higher Education Research and Development Society of Australasia, is a scholarly society for people committed to the advancement of higher and tertiary education, particularly the development of higher education policy, practice and the study of teaching and learning.

As your regional VPs, we’d like to encourage your communication with us, and your engagement with ISSOTL, and SoTL activities, in the broader Asia Pacific. If you know of any SoTL events in the region that could benefit from wider dissemination, please do let us know.
