Results of the 2018 ISSOTL Elections

After close elections involving a total of ten candidates, three ISSOTL members have been elected to serve on the Board of Directors:

  • President Elect: Michelle Yeo, Mt. Royal University (Canada)
  • Student Representative: Yahlnaaw (Aaron Grant), University of Northern British Columbia (Canada)
  • Vice President-United States: S. Raj Chaudhury, University of South Alabama (US)

Thank you to everyone who stood for election! Brief biographical information on each of the new Board members follows.

 

President Elect Michelle Yeo

Michelle YeoFor the past decade, Michelle has worked as an educational developer at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.  She is an Associate Professor in the Academic Development Centre (ADC), where she supports faculty members in the areas of curriculum, assessment, and pedagogy.  As of July 1, 2017, Michelle was appointed as the Academic Director of Mount Royal's Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. She was co-chair of the ISSOTL 2017 conference held in Calgary in October.

Michelle has a PhD in Education (Language and Literacy), with an MA and BEd in Early Childhood Education.  She is an active SoTL researcher and is passionate about the transformative possibilities of SoTL in curriculum and classroom practice. Some of her current research interests include concept mapping in content-heavy courses, SoTL as a driver for faculty development and curriculum change, and disciplinary conceptualizations of SoTL, pedagogy, and assessment.

 

Student Representative: Yahlnaaw (Aaron Grant)

Wonderful people! My name is Yahlnaaw / Aaron Grant. I am from Skidegate, Haida Gwaii and I am attending post-secondary education at the University of Northern British Columbia in Prince George, B.C. studying First Nations Studies (language and story revitalization). I will begin my Master’s in First Nations Studies this fall. Alongside this, I am a student researcher for UNBC’s Centre for Teaching, Learning and Technology. I facilitate Indigenous Speaker Series, present Edōsdi / Dr. Judith Thompson and I’s Decolonizing our Colonized Minds: Educational Systems at a National Scale, present at UNBC/CNC’s Annual Teaching and Learning Conferences focusing on the student voice, and I am currently working on a document with other academics funded by an organization called BCcampus to engage in students-as-partners work.

 

Vice President-United States S. Raj Chaudhury

Raj is Executive Director of the Innovation in Learning Center and the University of South Alabama. He earned a Ph.D. in Physics at UCLA, and is an active researcher in STEM education with a focus on learning technologies. Raj’s SoTL interests relate to scientific visualization for learning, teaching Indian music performance, and identifying and cultivating expertise in teaching.

As a Carnegie CASTL Scholar in 2003-04 Raj had his first immersion in world of SoTL. He has been an active contributor to ISSOTL conferences since 2005. Raj currently serves as co-chair of the Advocacy and Outreach Committee for ISSOTL. He also has chaired the Electronic Communications and Resources Committee of the POD Network, the U.S.-based professional society for academic developers. Raj spent the first fifteen years of his career as a faculty member before transitioning into his work as a full-time administrator in higher education for the past decade.
