Expressions of Interest for Hosting ISSOTL 2021
ISSOTL and its Conferences and Convenings Committee welcome expressions of interest in hosting the ISSOTL annual conference in 2021.
ISSOTL works closely with local hosts to organize and run each annual conference. Hosts typically provide intellectual leadership to the conference by articulating the theme, organizing the proposal selection/review process, and constructing the conference program in collaboration with the Society, as well as identifying the location for the conference and managing all local arrangements. ISSOTL supports the hosts by offering guidance, networking, and support, as well as supplying the online system for proposal selection/review and for collecting conference registrations.
Expressions of interest to host a conference must include:
- Name, title/position, and institutional affiliation of primary contact and names/institutions of other proposed members of the conference organizing team
- Host institution(s)
- City and country in which conference would be held
- Intended site of the conference - a university campus, conference center, a hotel, or some other venue
- Tentative dates in October on which the conference would be held (the conference is traditionally held in the month of October, and includes four conference days plus several days beforehand for the International Collaborative Writing Groups*, which now will be a standard element of the conference)
- A brief statement (max 200 words) outlining the reasons why the institution(s) and location are appealing hosts for the ISSOTL conference, and why the proposed theme will resonate with ISSOTL members.
Expressions of interest should be emailed no later than May 15, 2019 to firstname.lastname@example.org, and addressed to president-elect of ISSOTL.
The Convenings Committee will review all Expressions of interest received in June of 2019. Potential hosts selected to submit a more detailed proposal will be notified by July 1, 2019.
Expressions of Interest will be evaluated with the following principles in mind:
- Proposed theme – relevance and potential to appeal to ISSOTL both new and long-term members
- Location – country, city, and venue. ISSOTL, as an international society, is mindful of rotating the annual conference around the world when possible, but also takes into consideration accessibility of potential venues
- Inclusivity - we welcome conferences that bring in new voices and contexts to the conversation
- Strength of team – who will lead the conference planning and implementation?
Questions about expressions of interest, hosting the conference, or the selection process should be directed to the ISSOTL presidents-elect, Michelle Yeo (email@example.com), who chairs the Convenings Committee.
*The International Collaborative Writing Groups will be hosted as part of the conference, but will have organizers selected by the ISSOTL board in a separate process.
