  I am professor emeritus in the History Department at Indiana University, where I have taught since 1971 and the president emeritus of the International Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in History.  I am the co-creator of the Decoding the Disciplines approach to increasing student learning and the author of numerous books and articles on SoTL, most recently The Decoding the Disciplines Paradigm: Seven Steps to Increased Student Learning. I was a fellow in the Carnegie Academy for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning and the recipient of the American Historical Association's Eugene Asher Distinguished Teaching Award.
