ISSOTL AWARDS FOR BEST STUDENT PRESENTATION AND POSTER

ISSOTL is dedicated to fostering inquiry and disseminating findings about what improves and articulates post-secondary learning and teaching in any discipline. We also recognise the importance of engaging and supporting the emerging generation of SoTL scholars. The ISSOTL Awards for Best Student Presentation/Poster will acknowledge work that best represents the purposes, goals, and vision of ISSOTL and adds new knowledge, contributes innovative research, and/or provides insightful contribution to the field by a student presenter.

ISSOTL will recognize a student (or students) presenting the best student-led presentation and a student (or students) presenting the best student poster at the annual ISSOTL conference.

At the conference, members of the ISSOTL Student Awards Committee will circulate among the concurrent sessions with presenters who asked to be considered for the award in order to adjudicate the sessions (the criteria for judging are attached). The award will be presented at the closing of the ISSOTL conference. Applicants are encouraged to attend the closing session but will still be eligible for the award. The award includes a certificate, acknowledgement on the ISSOTL website, and a one-year complimentary membership to ISSOTL.

Applicants must be:

  • Undergraduate or Graduate students who are currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral program at a post-secondary institution or who were enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Doctoral program at a post-secondary institution in the most recent academic year (2017-2018).
  • Listed as primary author(s)/presenter(s) on their ISSOTL conference presentation or poster.
  • Must be presenting research that reflects their own work, not that of an advisor.
  • Presenting at the annual ISSOTL conference.

Applicants are expected to attend the conference closing keynote, where the results will be announced.

Students who have had a proposal accepted to ISSOTL18 are invited to apply to have their presentation/poster considered for the ISSOTL Awards for Best Student Conference Presentation/Poster. If you have questions, please contact Sam L Dvorakova, ISSOTL Student Representative, using the Contact Form and selecting Student Representative VPs from the Area of Focus.

To apply, please complete the online application by October 1st, 2018 October 22, 2018 (extended deadline).

ISSOTL EMERGING SCHOLARS FUND: CALL FOR STUDENT APPLICATIONS

ISSOTL’s goal is to “foster inquiry and disseminate findings about what improves and articulates post-secondary learning and teaching”. We recognize the importance of engaging emerging scholars who are interested in the scholarship of teaching and learning. We are dedicated to supporting this new talent and encouraging the engagement of students through sharing of ideas, networking, and learning at the annual ISSOTL conference.

The Emerging Scholars Fund, now in its third year, facilitates this engagement by inviting currently registered post-secondary students to apply for a conference fee waiver to attend the ISSOTL 2018 conference in Bergen, Norway.

Successful applicants will share in the ISSOTL discourse by actively participating in the conference activities. This includes attending the Student Welcome event at the start of the conference, the poster session and reception, and the conference closing session.

Upon culmination of the conference, recipients will provide a brief reflection on their conference experience, in video or audio format, or in writing, which may be published on the ISSOTL website.

Applications will be evaluated by members of the ISSOTL Students & SoTL Committee. Decisions will be based on the applicant’s commitment to the scholarship of teaching and learning, and the relevance of the conference/ISSOTL membership to the applicant’s professional development and career plans. The committee will also assess the applicant’s engagement and commitment to ISSOTL itself, giving priority to students with accepted presentations and posters at the conference, and students that serve ISSOTL as members of committees or in other official capacities.

The committee also seeks to make disbursements to students from a diverse set of higher education institutions; geographic locations; and academic programs, departments, and faculties; acknowledging that there can be significant expenses associated with international travel. As such, the ISSOTL Emerging Scholars Fund is both needs-based and merit-based and the committee encourages applicants to consider both aspects in their application submission.

If you have questions, please contact Sam L Dvorakova, ISSOTL Student Representative, using the Contact Form and selecting Student Representative VPs from the Area of Focus.

To apply, please complete the online application form by August 7st, 2018.
