Richard Hughes

Associate Professor

As a historian at Illinois State University, I teach courses in both U.S. history and history education. As a former secondary history teacher, my research interests range from U.S. social and cultural history, especially issues related to race, to the development of teacher candidates whose experiences underscore the relationship between higher and secondary education. I serve as Assistant Editor for the journal Teaching History: A Journal of Methods and most recently have explored the growth of teacher candidates who student teach in both the United States and the United Kingdom.
